At Precision Audio, we take pride in transforming stadium sound into an unforgettable experience for fans, athletes, and staff alike. When NC State Athletics sought to enhance the game-day atmosphere at Carter-Finley Stadium, our team was ready to deliver. Leveraging one of the largest Danley Sound Labs installations ever used in a stadium, alongside Allen & Heath’s AHM-64 audio matrix processor, we created a system that stands out for its power, coverage, and clarity.
A Big, Loud, and Rowdy Environment
“Carter-Finley is already known for its electric atmosphere,” says Scott Carneval, owner of Precision Audio. “We evaluated the existing setup and chose products that would significantly elevate the experience at every seat in the stadium.” In partnership with Danley Sound Labs and Allen & Heath, our goal was to give NC State fans a new level of immersion on game day.
Precision Audio’s Integrated Solution
The centerpiece of this project is an Allen & Heath AHM-64 audio matrix processor equipped with a Dante card. We deployed four DT168 Dante expanders strategically in the control room, the players’ entrance tunnel, the club level, and for portable use throughout the stadium. Two DT164w Dante interfaces capture additional inputs on the field and concourse, while DX012 expanders in the amplifier racks enable pristine, 96kHz audio distribution. Mixing for the entire stadium is handled by an Allen & Heath DM0 dLive MixRack (also fitted with a Dante card) and a dLive C3500 Control Surface.
To make control even more intuitive, we integrated Allen & Heath CC-10 touch panels throughout different regions of the stadium, as well as in the suites.
“Having AHM partner up with Danley has been one of the most fun relationships to develop,” says Samantha Potter, manager of installation and commercial audio at Allen & Heath. “Seeing our technologies come together for such an impactful stadium experience is very exciting.”
Serving NC State’s Vision
This installation is part of a broader collaboration between Precision Audio and NC State, building on our past projects for the university’s baseball, soccer, and track facilities, among others. “We want to create the best fan experience possible,” says Athletic Director Boo Corrigan. “Doing our research and finding the right audio solution has been our priority, and Precision Audio delivered.”
Elevated Fan and Player Experience
From the coaches to the fans, the feedback on Carter-Finley’s new system has been overwhelmingly positive. “What we had in the past was old and not as loud,” notes Brock McKirgan, director of football operations at NC State. “Now, you feel the energy and the bass. It fires everyone up.” Head coach Dave Doeren agrees: “When the crowd’s engaged, that’s tough on the opposing team. It’s changed the game for both the fans and our players.”
Technical Highlights
The speaker array includes four Danley J8-94 loudspeakers for broad coverage, three SH46 downfills, one J6-42 for field-level sound, and eight BC415 subwoofers that drive the low-end impact throughout the stadium. Concourse and under-balcony areas are served by sixteen OS12CX and thirty-two Go2-8CX loudspeakers, while the entrance gates feature eleven OS80 loudspeakers to ensure consistent coverage the moment fans arrive.
