Nantahala Outdoor Center
At the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC), Precision Audio delivered a seamless indoor and outdoor audio experience across three buildings—Big Wesser Riverside Pub, Rivers End Restaurant, and the Adventure Center. By integrating Danley speakers and amplifiers, Allen & Heath processors, and fiber optic cabling, we created a robust sound system capable of campus-wide paging that cuts through the mighty roar of the Nantahala River. Guests and staff alike can now enjoy crystal-clear audio, whether they’re dining by the water or gearing up for the next whitewater adventure.
A Bridge of Audio with an Outdoor Sound System
The Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) started out as a small motel and gas station in the early 1970s. Today, the NOC is a mecca for adventurists and sits along the Nantahala River, just outside of the Great Smoky Mountains. With its breathtaking natural surroundings, wide range of outdoor activities, and commitment to environmental stewardship, the NOC has earned its reputation as one of the premier outdoor recreation destinations in the United States.
We were delighted to help the NOC in Asheville, NC with indoor and outdoor speaker installation, connecting three buildings with high-quality audio – the Big Wesser Riverside Pub, the Rivers End Restaurant, and the Adventure Center. By using Danley speakers and amplifiers, and Allen & Heath processors connected with fiber optic cables, we were able to create a sound system that could route audio for campus-wide paging and be heard clearly over the roaring rapids of the Nantahala River. Each building was also outfitted with an Allen & Heath IP8 motorized fader controller, making it very easy to adjust the sound with its hands-on controls and ultra-compact setup.
A Mecca for Adventurists
With our installation, visitors can now enjoy live music and important announcements whether sitting indoors, outside on the expansive deck, or passing by on rafts and kayaks.
It was an incredible experience to be asked to install a sound system in an outdoor facility at the NOC. This location, while both expansive and awe-inspiring, has been home to several Olympians who have trained in its waters. Joe Jacobi and Scott Strausbaugh were NOC paddlers who took home Gold Medals at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. In 1996, the Nantahala Racing Club (NRC) had four members who made the Olympic team in the whitewater slalom event. And in 2021, Evy Leibfarth, an NOC sponsored athlete, competed in the canoe and kayak slalom at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
We know Precision Audio’s sound system installation at the NOC marks a transformative step in enhancing the overall experience for its visitors. Whether gathering with friends at the Big Wesser Riverside Pub or floating down the Nantahala River, our crystal-clear audio will add a new dimension of excitement to all of NOC’s adventures as the sounds resonate through the wilderness.
